PowerScan™ Wireless Device and Monitor III Software

During the past three years, customer requests have increased dramatically for 24-hr. access to power systems.

Monitoring software has been available to remotely view power system equipment operation and fault conditions.  Typically done via a modem,   Ethernet connection is fast becoming a way to avoid a dedicated phone line.  Kohler Monitor III software supports power system equipment such as the Decision-Maker™ 3+ and 550 generator controllers, MPAC 1000 transfer switch controller, and legacy 340 products.  Refer to Kohler Specification Sheet G6-76.

With the advent of the cellular phone and other personal devices, it is not uncommon to expect connection via the Internet.

Kohler Power Systems offers a solution to stay connected using both the Internet and wireless communication.  The PowerScan™ monitoring system provides system reliability using wireless communication to send messages to an Internet webpage and to other selected devices, such as a pager or cell phone.  Messages include runtime hours, faults, and other information selected by the user.

The PowerScan™ wireless device has both dry contact and voltage inputs that can be user-assigned as needed for the installation.  Direct connection to the generator controller provides the ability to identify faults and quickly send them to an individual for action.  This is a great way to dispatch the best qualified technician when service is required to avoid unplanned outages.

Once the PowerScan™ is installed at the site, it is activated and maintained via the Internet.  A webpage is available to view one or many devices from a single location.  The webpage is password protected to prevent unauthorized user access and lists activity for each installed device.  It also provides the ability to remotely start or stop the generator.  A technician can also deactivate the system by pressing a button at the installation to avoid nuisance messages from being generated during servicing.

The PowerScan™ easily adapts to new or existing standby generator systems.   Message services are billed monthly, similar to a cell phone plan.  This is an easy way to add value to a customer service plan, and enables the Kohler power professional to take action to maintain critical power when it is needed.
