Variety is Key for Tesdell Electric at West Glen
The latest addition to the West Des Moines landscape is taking shape. The West Glen Town Center contains a wide range of businesses and spaces to suit the tenant’s and area resident’s business and personal needs. Described as a mixed-use, lifestyle town center, the project contains everything from a big box retailer to residential apartments and is the first of its kind in the state of Iowa.
The project is comprised of two main buildings totaling approximately 325,000 sq/ft on either side of a “main street” and several single tenant and multiple tenant buildings. Each main building houses underground parking, multi-family residential dwellings, retail shops and office space helping to reduce automobile traffic and create a sense of community. West Glen’s “Avenue of the Arts” center piece is the Sticks Gallery, whose signature tower boasts an attention getting articulating search light system. The Avenue of the Arts when finished will feature an inviting fountain that turns into an outdoor performance stage.
For Tesdell Electric Project Manager John Angaran, who began the project in December 2004, the variety of space types and tenants presented its own set of challenges. “It may be one project in name, but it’s really more like 40 that just happen to be at the same site”, said Angaran. The various spaces that Tesdell has done do have at least two things in common; “they are all wired with Square D distribution equipment and all of the electrical material came from 3E. I only want to see one delivery truck on my jobs, the 3E truck. I’ve learned to depend on 3E’s inventory and reliable service, especially that of Inside Salesman, Tracy Hutchens,” said Angaran.
The project’s list of equipment includes six Square D 3-phase modular metering systems ranging in size from 1200-2000A and an assortment of branch circuit panels and disconnects. One of the buildings also features a 75kW Kohler Standby Power System.
When it came to site lighting the project developer and investor Bill Van Orsdel wanted something that would complement the Town Center’s contemporary design, maintain the sense of community, and of course provide excellent lighting. He selected the Kim “Bounce” series of luminaries to do the job. The project was reported to be one of the largest to date from Kim for this type of luminaire.
Matt Tesdell who heads up Tesdell Electric’s low voltage business also provided and installed the site wide fire alarm systems, access control, communications systems, and closed circuit TV systems.
West Glen Operations Manager Karen Hallagin said “John and Matt couldn’t have been more helpful or responsive and Matt was instrumental in the design installation of the various low voltage systems.” She went on to say, “John and Matt actually answered their phones when I called and their advice was always sound. They seemed to be constantly looking out for our interest.”
Congratulations to the entire Tesdell Electric team that worked on the West Glen Town Center and thanks for selecting 3E as your supplier of choice. Last Updated ( Monday, 10 April 2006 )
