One of the industries oldest type of motor has become one of the most complicated. From large motors and generators to state of the art servos. 3E's DC shop technicians have kept up with the industry.

DC motors and generators need maintenance often because they are subject to various speeds, types of loads, and contaminants in addition to the normal brush and commutator wear. Close examination and special test procedures such as surge, high frequency, hipot and megger testing are a must in this business. Precision tolerances and proper brush grades are needed to maintain good commutation and brush life. Small problems left unattended often turn into unexpected production breakdowns.

DC Armature and Field Rewinding

The armature is the heart of a DC motor or generator. 3E rewinds include the best materials and resins available. All armature rewinds are precision balanced and commutators are machined to close tolerances. Platinum plating for commutators is available to improve filming for low or erratic loading conditions. Field windings are subject to the same adverse conditions as the armature. A variety of different insulations and coatings are on-hand to be tailored to each individual rewind.

Where some windings need to be exposed for cooling others might need insulated from contaminants. 3E uses high temperature wire and insulations designed to better dissipate unwanted heat while providing maximum life and protection for longer service. All rewound DC motors and generators are load tested to insure the job has been done correctly.

Brake and Magnet Coils

Our technicians routinely rewind many types of specialty coils such as those found in foreign manufactured motors. Often replacements are overseas or unavailable so forms are machined and coils rewound and potted to the original value in our facility.
